Chamaedorea cataractarum "Cat Palm"

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

Use: Cat palms are used as accent pieces or as privacy barriers in groupings. They prefer partial shade and add a nice tropical touch to shady gardens.

Characteristics: Cat palms will grow very full to between 5' and 6' tall. They add a soft texture to the landscape and can work well with many different styles. Cat palms can acclimate to a wide range of sun exposures, but prefer partial sun. These palms thrive in damp situations in organic soils. Additional watering will be necessary in dry areas, or during periods of drought.

Trimming: No formal trimming is needed. DO NOT SHEAR. Trim off dead fronds as they occur.

Fertilization: Fertilize in March, June and October with a well-balanced, granular Palm fertilizer.
