Use: Flowering bedding plant.
Characteristics: Lily of the Nile is a large ground cover that provides interesting texture and beautiful flowers in the landscape. They prefer full sun to flower but can acclimate to some shade. They have very low water requirements and will develop a fungus if watered more than twice a week. During a wet summer, a fungicide is necessary. Flowering is a bit unpredictable, but generally, they flower much better after a few years in the ground. Dwarf and white flowering varieties are also available.
Trimming: No formal trimming is needed. NO SHEARING, EVER. Hand prune to remove old flower heads and to remove brown leaves at the base of plants.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced granular fertilizer three times per year, in March, June, and October. If signs of fungus appear, immediately apply a fungicide.
